Is it too cold to learn to surf in Scotland in November?
I have the first 12 days off work in November and have always wanted to learn to surf. Is November too cold in Scotland? I have looked for surf schools in Scotland, but most just seem to run the school holidays or weekends only. I’d need at least a week to learn to stand up I think!
i bet its cold! you are brave!..usually all you need from a surf school is just the basics..how to paddle out, when to start paddling to catch a wave, etc..once you get that done the standing up part is just about balance..it may take you a little while to get it, but thats something that you can practice on your own.i would advise going to a school for the weekend, if they offer it in nov. and learning the basics, then practicing the balance portion on your own..

Scotland is 10 to 20 degrees higher than where I live and it’s about 40-50 F in November so if you choose to go make sure to where a wetsuit (I’d wait till May

If you have the proper gear, no. People surf in Lake Suprior when the water is 30 some degrees fahrenheit and the wind chill is below zero fahrenheit.

Scotland is much higher North, therefore at a much higher latitude than America and November is a Fall Month. It’s cold in November and what’s worse is the sun rises even later and is even lower in the sky there than here in November, making it so cold. The higher the sun is, hotter it is. You should go surfing now while it’s still July or the Summer months. You should go on weekends since you have a lot of work.

Get a decent wetsuit with booties, mask, gloves, and you’ll be fine.
